Non-Traditional Spa Services

Massage Cupping is a modern adaptation of the ancient Chinese art of cupping therapy. By creating a suction or vacuum, cupping therapy is used to release rigid soft tissue, drain excess fluids and toxins, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue while bringing blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles.

Cupping has a sedating effect on the nervous system, and many people find it profoundly relaxing.

Sometimes areas of tension or injury are simply to tense or tender to treat with certain therapeutic methods such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy or cross-fiber friction. Massage cupping is a gentle, non-invasive way to soften muscle tissue so that more specific massage techniques can be comfortably applied. The therapeutic effects of massage cupping include relief of inflammation, move stagnation, loosen star tissue or adhesions while reducing their appearance, lymph drainage, stimulate blood flow and the release of deep tissue issues.

In areas of tissue dysfunction, this technique may occasionally leave a temporary mark, called “sha”. Sha resembles a bruise but is not painful. Traditional Chinese Medicine regards the appearance of sha as an indication that toxins and stagnation are being pulled to the surface of the body, restoring healthy qi and blood flow below.

Massage cupping can be an add on to your regular massage session or can be done as a full session by itself. Whichever you try, it will be a truly wonderful experience!

Facial Cupping 25 min. $45

Massage cupping applications for the face have evolved with the discovery of MICRO-CUPS that can be used to vacuum across the skin, or mimic the pumping movements of lymphatic drainage. The benefits include increased local circulation to the skin, bringing nutrition to the surface and enhancing absorption of skin care products, masks and serums.

Massage cupping on the face will drain stagnant fluids from “reservoir” areas, and ease puffiness. It is also a valuable treatment in the battle against seasonal allergies. Additionally, the muscles of the face benefit greatly from reduced tension and tightness, easing expression lines and loosening rigid muscles associated with TMJ disorders. Lines, wrinkles and scar tissue will soften and plump from massage cupping.
